we beat the rainbows!

it was an amazing game, almost the best im game ive ever been in (purple league championship soccer). dazzling rainbows beat us 11-5 in the regular season, and were favored to win by 5 tonight. we came out and played hard, going up 1-0. at the beginning of the 3rd period, it was 3-2 them. we tied it up right away, then went ahead 4-3 towards the midpoint with a huge goal from kara assisted by sam. we went up more with a clutch goal from jim. i think they scored another to make it 5-4. then it was time for defense and we played well. they pulled their goalie with two minutes left. sam scored an empty netter that saved our lives when the rainbows struck for the last time to make it 6-5 us. the last minute was the longest minute ever, but we ended up winning and advancing to the quarterfinals.

it was an especially satisfying victory because adam, sam, and i played for the rainbows in white league, so we knew most of the guys. adam was a rock in goal, and everyone stepped up and played really well. we have really come together as a team since the last time we played them. mat sci is our next opponent on the quest for the tshirts. i dont know if any victory will be sweeter than tonight though. adam compared it to the usa team beating the russians. the finals dont even matter.

after the game, the refs told us that we played the best as a team and that they were pulling for us. it was a really exciting game. surely what IM sports, or sports in general, is all about.

the only redeeming comment of the day:
thomas - (said steven wright style) "but aren't we all radiated anyway? from standing in front of the microwave...'is it done yet?'"

i couldnt stop laughing for some reason.

grad students dont know shit. cept for maybe two. three max, and one of them graduated. i was fucking damage control. set up all the lights, fixed the camera, fixed the mic, fixed the dat, solved all these other stupid problems, and things still went wrong cause people dont know their shit. dont you think you'd want to know your shit before spending 500 bucks trying to make a film? oh wait, they can just convince some stupid kid (me!) to think about all of the hard parts and figure them out.

here are some annoying exchanges:
- ok. since we cant do that, lets move in for the two shot.
- you mean like the one i just had all the lights set up for before you changed shots?
- yes.
- great.

- would we have to move lights back if i want to shoot her lines again?
- yeah, there arent any lights there, anymore.
- there aren't?
- no, (i look to the dark area) there aren't.
- oh, ok.

i didnt slack. i set up everything and took it down and put it away. but i did so in a manner that showed i didnt want to be there. and there was nothing any of them could say about it. it was a weird set. they arent my friends. i dont owe them shit. but i was mainly there just because i blew that girl off in the fall when she asked for help. she must think im really pissed off at her right now, from the way i acted. which is fine with me. im not really pissed off at her, more myself for volunteering my time like that.

this just all makes me glad that school's almost over. no more of this bullshit. im sure other bullshit will take its place, but at least it will accompany, at the very least, 15 dollars an hour.

today could have been put to such better use.

back from hell again, a sack of skeleton.

whaddayaknow. another week. icing and elevating my ankle after our playoff hockey game. it was a close one. 4-3 going into the 3rd period, we ended up winning 8-3. pretty good considering we were the underdogs by two goals. hopefully, we'll continue beating the odds to the championship. the next game will be tough, but we will have more people there. a rematch with the dazzling rainbows. their tshirts came in..

i screened the troy doc for the classrooms for kids committee. they liked it. just have to add an ending to it. i'm going to try to cut it down a little too. ten minutes is a good time, but i dont know what i could cut. it would have been nice to go all out and make it visually entertaining, but its not legal to video tape kids without their parents permission, and thats too much work. plus, no time. that goes without saying. i edited it in a day, and ill spend sunday on it as well. the end is in sight.

for some reason im on a set on saturday. completely unnecessary. i dont know what i was thinking. never do. to think, i could have spent the entire day playing video games, or, god forbid, cleaning my room. socom 3 was announced yesterday and has a fall release date. good to hear.

last monday i wrote a 10 page single spaced treatment of my feature out. i sent it to a few people to get comments. they have been helpful. its getting better and better, which is pretty exciting.

news flash from 2049: stuff keeps getting written and jon keeps feeding me more. i'd say a conservative estimate is late april, but i hope to get it done before then, since ill be shooting a film then. spring break should be productive if i dont get swept away to some faraway beach/mountain. odds are ill be at blockbuster and jons place. so when you get back, you'll have a tan, and ill have a new album. how about that.

someone remind me that i have giant research paper due in a week...

it always comes down to the last 15 minutes of an unproductive work shift.

a person i was just talking to said the only ways i can be so calm is that i either have nothing to do, or i'm in complete denial of what i have to do. i'm in denial.

made some headway with the troy project today. ill probably be up late working on it more, but the 7:45 call time might scare me into sleeping. it'll basically be impossible for me to stay awake during M tomorrow in class. ah well, not like ive made it through any full length movie in that class without falling asleep. i pass out during the 5 minute clips. tomorrow it goes work, class, work, dinner, edit, pick up dave from the airport at 12:30am.

i cant decide. i think im going to edit the troy piece in the library. actually, i'll consult cesar on the compatability of final cut hd and final cut 3. the decks at the library are sweet, and as of right now, the only camera i have to use as a deck misplays the tapes with audio blips. the decks at the library make them sound and look great, plus they have little 2x2 inch lcd monitors on the front of the deck which are useless, but awesome looking.

enough about work. sage is still the man. c.r. was a special guest which was a very pleasant surprise. he came out first with a keytar and a harmonica and did a few songs by beatboxing/harmonica-ing/keytar-ing/and singing at the same time. the man is amazing. soliloquists of sound were alright. the dj, da vinci, played mpcs and was kind of over the top. they were mediocre as a group, but great as a backup band for sage. it was great to see him with more than a discman. he did mostly new stuff, which was still fun. at one point he asked 'do you want to hear some new stuff?' the crowd roared. then he said 'well, you should have come last year.' but then he did crack pipes over one of the beats from the new album. other oldies were mainstream, damage, and makeshift patriot as a closer. da vinci closed it out with a jimi hendrix style national anthem (he had a wah pedal hooked up to one of the mpcs). sage did a lot of funny shit as usual, and was sporting a very healthy beard.

i got to talk to sage at the merch table for a bit before the show, but our conversation was cut short by a cell phone call he got. which is kind of funny, but the man has to have a cell phone since he is a travelling business. afterwards i was lucky to catch c.r. and get his email address. i gotta get him the slam stuff that i got to sage and jared last time they were in town. actually, two times ago. also, jared said he liked the doc, which was cool. he was busy selling stuff though so i left it at that. it was a great night. +1 cause erika was there. we had fun despite being some of the oldest people there. thats what epitaph does to you i guess, but i cant really complain because ive never gotten to the front row of a concert easier than that.

a new post. wow. ive been sitting here at work since 6 trying to get started on this, only to be constantly interrupted by people wanting to have conversations that demand my full attention. cant they see i just want to type in peace?

blockbuster today was amusing. vlado says i need to make a film with the tagline- "the death of common sense, the start of stupidity" a play on "the end of late fees, the start of more." people still look at you like you are an asshole when they ask "whats the deal with no more late fees?" and you answer "well, there are no more late fees."

here are a few interesting exchanges from the day-
(man walks through security gate and it beeps. he continues to leave)
vlado: excuse me
man: what?
v: do you have something in your bag that would set off the alarm?
m (annoyed): what do you mean?
v: something in your bag made the alarm beep.
m: i have movies from the library.
v: oh, ok, thanks.
(man begins to leave)
m: smart ass.
v: freak.
(man does a frantic double take and quickly exits.)

woman:whats the deal with no late fees?
vlado: there arent any late fees.
w: so i can just keep the movie as long as i want?
v: no, there are still due dates, you are still renting the movie from us.
other woman: there is no answer.
(woman notices other woman, they recognize each other, and begin talking)
ow: i was watching hamlet the other day with ethan...
(looks to vlado for his last name, vlado gives her a blank stare)
ow: .. hawke, i think. its set in the future, and hes in a blockbuster in the movie. to be or not to be. i guess blockbuster is involved in that.
(vlado and i are very confused and i walk away laughing)

people are nuts. why do people want to rent from corporate chains like that? why not support mom and pop? they actually care about their customers. as a c.s.r., i generally care, enough to help someone find a movie, but the corporation doesnt give a shit about them or us. people find comfort in these giant corporations, when, in actuality, they are the worst places to do business with. next week, corporate tightens its death grip on employees. 5-15 mins late, the store manager gets an email, good thing he doesnt care. but if you are more than 15 mins late, it gets emailed to the district manager, and hes a prick. you have to clock in and out individually for different types of breaks, and you can only take them at certain times. such bullshit. makes me want to quit... gotta line some other income up first.

on the plate:
jobs - cage, blockbuster, AT work, various freelance
projects - troy doc, andys film (almostdonethankgodihatedthisset), te 2049
class - directing project, feature script, stupid research paper

constantly in denial about how many hours are in a day, week, etc. priorities...
im not going to bitch about andys set cause id rather forget about it, heres a summary statement though - the worst set i ever worked on.

bird wanted me to explain some soccer goals, but i want to go work on my script. ill briefly explain one though because it was one of the best goals of my life. we were playing some shitty team as usual and were up by 5 goals or so. i already had 2, so i was a target for fouls. i got the ball from our goalie just on our side of the half circle. i had a guy on my back that i was shielding. he was pushing me and i kind of fell, but managed to keep the ball. by then i was double teamed, instead of passing it back, i turned schooled them both, dribbling right through them. one of the guys recovered quick and lunged in on me trying to take me out. i beat him again and made some progress down the field towards the last defender and the goalie. the defender fell for a fake shot and i flew past him and beat the keeper with a well placed ball to the corner of the net. i singlehandedly beat more than half of their team for my hat trick goal. that shut them up. it was a great feeling that i thought would carry me through the 2nd weekend of andy's set. it didnt though, cause set sucked too much.

we are resurrecting thursday nights tonight. caps, 10 cent wings, and coronas. time to get started.
